Manhunt for Lincoln’s killer
If you were listening to NPR this morning you will have heard James Swanson explaining how Abraham Lincoln was murdered in Ford Theatre by John Wilkes Booth. I loved Swanson’s book, Manhunt, which goes into the killing and the 12-day chase to capture Booth. There is an art to writing these type of history books – Antony Beevor (author of Stalingrad) and Stephen Ambrose (author of Band of Brothers) also has it. These authors seem to combine incredible detail from meticulous research with drama.
Manhunt is one of our recommended alternative reads about Lincoln – more details here.
