Ilana Stanger-Ross interview

Sima's Undergarments for Women
Victoria, where AbeBooks is based, is a very bookish city. We have several great bookstores in town and more authors than we know what to do with. We discovered Ilana Stanger-Ross by an unconventional method - my other half told me about her while I was unloading the dishwasher. One of her friends had told her about the book. Who needs marketing when word of mouth can get things done? Ilana’s debut novel is called
Sima’s Undergarments for Women and has already been positively reviewed in Entertainment Weekly, NY Post and Vancouver Sun. She kindly answered my questions and you can read our interview
here.
Set in the Jewish community of a Brooklyn neighborhood, a women’s underwear shop is at the centre of this novel. I learnt a lot about bras by reading this book. Sima’s Undergarments for Women features Sima, the shop’s ageing owner, and Timna, her young Israeli seamstress, who makes a huge impact on her older colleague. I love the fact that Stanger-Ross has been giving readings in lingerie shops.
Check out Ilana’s blog.
