ATLANTA (AP) — Emory University is unveiling the literary archives of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker for the first time since she donated the collection to the Atlanta school a year ago.
The university is holding a two-day symposium starting Thursday to honor Walker. The event will feature a panel discussion featuring feminist Gloria Steinem and activist and author Howard Zinn.
Walker will give a reading at 8 p.m. Friday [April 24, 2009] at Emory.
The collection spans 40 years and includes letters, journals and photos. It also includes the original handwritten draft of “The Color Purple,” which garnered Walker a Pulitzer in 1983.
Fans of Alice Walker can pick up signed copies of The Color Purple for as little as $50.
