Angelina Jolie to Play Kay Scarpetta

Among my favourite (of what I consider) airplane reads (books you read on the plane, then leave for the next passenger) are Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta novels. Kay Scarpetta is a medical examiner who always ends up hip-deep in murder mysteries, often making herself a target. Why? Because she’s independent and sassy, and sticks her nose in where it doesn’t belong. That’s right, I like a series of novels about a sassy, independent Medical Examiner. Problem with that? Seriously though, they’re grisly and exciting, mysterious and heart-palpitation inducing, and I always enjoy them, read them at the speed of light, then immediately forget about them. They’re fun, easy reads.

And now Angelina Jolie is going to play Kay Scarpetta. That’s so wrong! I really never got the feeling Scarpetta was smolderingly hot. She should be played by like…Marcia Cross or something. Someone of reasonable hotness! Moderate hotness! Acceptable, non-distracting-from-the-storyline, believable hotness! Gah. Angelina Jolie. This’ll be like that time she played a police officer in that terrible movie (from a not terrible book) with Denzel Washington, and she pouted and swivelled her way through the movie in a tight uniform. Least. Believable. Cop. Ever.

*sigh*
