Another case of a severely overdue library book making its way home.
Alvin M. Josephy’s book The Patriot Chiefs, which had been checked out on March 16, 1978, was returned to the Arlington Central Library (Virginia) last Tuesday. A letter of apology and a cheque for $25 came along with the book.
70-year-old Sarah McKee said that she was embarrassed when she recently opened the book and discovered that it belonged to the library. Citing a poor memory, McKee said, “I never would have schlepped it around all these years had I not thought it was mine.”
“It’s always great to get the books back, as opposed to any kind of income from fines or replacement fees,” Peter Golkin, spokesman for the library said. Gee…I wish our library felt the same way.
