New York Times, Associated Press Fight Salinger’s Ban on Catcher in the Rye Sequel
The ongoing saga of the Catcher in the Rye sequel has a new chapter. Author Fredrik Colting – who published the 60 years Later: Coming Through the Rye under the pseudonym John David California (J.D. California) – was ruled against by a U.S. District Court judge. The judge sided with J.D. Salinger and claimed the book took enough from Salinger’s classic tale of teen angst, The Catcher in the Rye as to infringe on salinger’s rights.
Now the New York Times, The Associated Press and free speech groups have banded together to fight the ruling, claiming the judge missed the mark, free speech reigns supreme, and the book should be allowed to be published.
