Generation A – the right or wrong title?
So I’m reading The Lost Symbol at the moment (just kidding), I’m actually reading Generation A by Douglas Coupland. It’s a pretty good read but I’m intrigued by why he called the book Generation A. I read Generation X and Girlfriend in a Coma in the mid-1990s, and actually preferred Girlfriend in a Coma.
I wonder if Coupland is barking up the wrong tree with the title – Generation A will immediately draw comparisons with Generation X. So many authors like to move on from their defining piece of work and don’t like being constantly reminded of something they did so long ago. Coupland might simply love examining each generation as it passes – I bet he’ll be a wonderfully grumpy old man one day. Either way, Generation A is an enjoyable piece of writing.

I agree…. its a good read. However I think that Generation X is way better than Generation A. “Girlfriend in a coma” ruined me emotionally. I mean, I couldn’t stop crying when I read the end. Damn… Douglas Coupland is an amazing writer.
