Pop-Up Revivalist Waldo Hunt Dies
What started off as a discovery of children’s pop-up book from Czechoslovakia displayed in a toy store window on Fifth Avenue in New York became a life’s passion for Waldo Hunt.
Hunt is credited with reviving an interest in pop-up books in America and for amassing a personal collection of over 4,000 of such books, 500 of which he donated to UCLA before opening his own museum within his offices.
Some of Hunt’s favourite pop-up books were:
- David Pelham’s The Human Body
- Andy Warhol’s Index
- Jan Pienkowski’s Haunted House
- How Many Bugs in a Box? by paper engineer David A. Carter
Waldo Hunt died on November 6 at the age of 88.
