This book wasn’t overdue, it was stolen. But 60 years after its disappearance, Napolean by Emil Ludwig has returned home to a Toledo Ohio library.
“Carrying guilt for 60 years is a terrible thing,” the guilty party wrote in a letter that accompanied the returned book. “I removed this book from your stacks in 1949 and did not check it out. I apologize. It’s an excellent book and in good condition.”
January 15, 1949, is stamped as the book’s last check-out date.
