Braille Library Materials Under Threat
The Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) issued a statement on January 20th that it can no longer feasibly afford to maintain and run Canada’s most extensive library of braille books and audio book materials. The library lends to people all across Canada via mail, and the operation costs $10 million per annum.
The CNIB has indicated that the service could be affected as early as April without assistance, and they’re asking the government to provide funding to keep the program alive.

I so hope their request is granted and they’re provided the necessary funding. The idea of not having access to reading is unthinkable.

I think the government should do more to fund the braille books library. With all the taxes we pay I don’t mind some of it going to this useful and worthwhile project.
I’m with Sarah, it’s ridiculous what our money goes to when there are issues that actually need some attention.
Braille Institute is looking for virtual volunteers for their new online community site http://www.solutionsinsight.org the new site is focused on helping people with low or failing vision and the people that care for them. Have a great day!
