A $400 colouring book
From a list of colouring books for grownups, I just found a lovely post on recto|verso about a colouring book from the 1860s: Nouveau Cours Élémentaire de Coloris et d’Aquarelle: Suivi de Considérations sur la Peinture Orientale. Made to teach basic colouring skills, each image has a coloured example and a black-and-white worksheet for students. It even comes with a colouring guide. There’s two copies of the book for sale on AbeBooks now for about $400 each, crayons not included.
recto|verso is run by the staff of F.A. Bernett Books, an AbeBooks bookseller. Their specialty is books about art, architecture, design and other visual topics, and their blog shows that focus well. I’m still amazed by the images in their post about Joseph Urban’s Rainbow City designs.
