Pen names in literature
Pseudonym, pen name or alias – authors have been writing under names other than their own for centuries. There are a huge variety of reasons for adopting a false name and some writers had multiple fake names on their writing resume – Samuel Langhorne Clemens was Mark Twain and Thomas Jefferson Snodgrass, for instance. Gothic illustrator Edward Gorey went to town and wrote under several pseudonyms, including Ogdred Weary, Regera Dowdy, Dogear Wryde and E. G. Deadworry.
