North American train travel

The Guardian carries a wonderful essay from Scottish author AL Kennedy called Typing on Trains but it’s actually about travelling on North American trains. She loves them, even though they are slow and meandering, and the carriages “smell weird.” As usual, the US customs officials are shocking and seem very suspicious of a “Scottish novelist.” The more I hear of Kennedy, the more I like her.
