Giller-winner “The Sentimentalists” Picked Up by Vancouver Publisher
As detailed by my colleague Scott last week, this year’s Giller winner has been in very high demand since the announcement of its victory, as the small, Nova Scotia-based Gaspereau Press who publishes the book specializes in hand-crafted books, manual production processes and very – very – small, slow print runs.
I know we’ve been unable to keep the book – The Sentimentalists by Johanna Skibsrud – on the virtual shelves at all since it won the $50,000 prize. Fortunately, Gaspereau has now agreed to allow publisher Douglas and MacIntyre to lend a hand. The Vancouver outfit will initially print 30,000 copies, which should be available in stores within a week. Gaspereau will keep lovingly printing the book themselves as well, at their usual rate of approximately 1,000 copies per week.
