Rookie novelist wins at 2011 BC Book Prizes
The BC (as in British Columbia) Book Prizes were handed out last Thursday evening in Vancouver. Congratulations to all the winners. The star of the show was Gurjinder Basran from North Delta, who took home the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize for her debut novel Everything Was Good-bye. The book concerns growing up as an Indo-Canadian in a suburb of Vancouver. Ms Basran looked suitably thrilled as she swept onto the stage in a beautiful black and gold sari.
AbeBooks sponsors the Hubert Evans Non-Fiction Prize and that went to Vancouver’s John Vaillant for The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival. This book about a man-eating tiger in a remote area of Russia has been winning rave reviews for a long time now.
The Vancouver Sun has the full list of winners from the evening.
