Yesterday The Observer had a big article on The Secret Life of Libraries. Britain’s libraries are threatened by budgetary cuts so this piece is timely. It covers theft, prison libraries where Graham Greene is preferred, air raid shelter libraries, block books like Last Exit to Brooklyn, sleeping patrons and people who eat the books.
