Celebrities and reading

The Guardian dwells on how celebrities don’t read books even if they ‘write’ them. Jamie Oliver boasts that he’s never read a book and yet he wouldn’t be happy if people stopped buying his cookbooks. If I was famous – say a rock star or a sports star – then I’d fill all that time spent traveling by reading books. It’s not like celebrities have 9-to-5 jobs – they have the time to read.

Of course, the Guardian article is rubbish. Plenty of famous people read. Take the actress Zoë Wanamaker – she’s opening the 54th London International Antiquarian Book Fair at Olympia next month. We can safely say that she reads.
