Unfinished Jane Austen manuscript going up for auction
Jane Austen began and abandoned writing “The Watsons” in 1804. She had just finished drafting Sense and Sensibility but was still seven years away from publishing her opus. The manuscript has been written in her own hand and is assumed to be about one quarter complete.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the piece is that it’s basically a working draft where you can see how she worked and refined her text. The manuscript is expected to sell for as much as $490,000.
For the rest of common folk the pages from The Watsons have been digitized and are available at the Jane Austen Manuscripts website.
