The world’s most beautiful telephone directory?

The days of telephone directories must be numbered but take a look at this one – a 1930 telephone directory for the islands of Maui, Kauai and Hawaii published by the Mutual Telephone Company.

The Heritage Bookshop in Los Angeles has listed this book for sale at $1,000 and I’ll let them explain as they are the experts.

“Original drab gray printed wrappers, printed in red and blue. Housed in a 2-ring binder of Kapa cloth (traditional Hawaiian fabric made from tree bark) made especially for the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Brown leather label on front board, lettered and stamped in gilt. The inner front cover of the binder with a reproduction of a drawing of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The inner back cover with a reproduction of a postcard, with various scenes from around Hawaii, including the Waialae Golf Links.”

Telephone books can be collectible as this feature shows.
