Cool and Unusual Bookends

I came across these great bookends fashioned after Rodin’s classic sculpture The Thinker and really loved them. They led me to wonder what other great bookends might be out there – and I wasn’t disappointed. There are many, many neat and unique styles of bookends available out there that I would love to have on display in my home. On AbeBooks alone, there are Benjamin Franklin bookends, Stonewall Jackson bookends, Lion bookends, Temple of Saturn bookends, and of course some book bookends, to name a few.

Sadly, I will never have need of them, as I always utilize the “stuff my bookshelves until they are full to overflowing” method of keeping my books upright.

  1. As a neurologist, my favourite bookends are right and left brain hemispheres that my wife bought for me when we were dating!

Ha! What a great gift. No wonder you married her.

  3. I have two kitty bookends – use them for CDs, though. Bookshelves are too full.

My father, a retired industrial engineer, was never one for ties or sports equipment or (insert huge laughter here) tools, like other fathers. But I can usually find books with which to gift him. By far the most successful gift I ever gave him were plaster bookends cast in the shape of the Sydney Opera House, his favorite building in the world.

  5. Bookends are always the consolation prize when I’m out scouting books at estate, garage, and yard sales and am not having much luck. A tip: don’t overlook singles. A “pair” of bookends with one missing still works, can be had for nickels, and often times the pieces are crazy unique.
