2012 BC Book Prizes shortlist announced

The BC Book Prizes have announced the shortlist for the 2012 awards.

Esi Edugyan and Carmen Aguirre are the big names on the list. Edugyan has already won the Giller Prize for Half-Blood Blues. What’s especially interesting and noteworthy is that while Edugyan is up for the fiction prize, so is her husband, Steven Price, whose debut novel, Into That Darkness has made the shortlist as well. I’m curious to see how that plays out – I bet there’s a lot of good-natured ribbing around the dinner table at the Price-Edugyan home these days.

Aguirre’s memoir Something Fierce: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter won the recent non-fiction Canada Reads contest. AbeBooks is a sponsor of the awards and has been for as long as I’ve been here. Can’t wait for the gala in May.
