Ace Books: Publishing Pioneers of Science Fiction

Anne McCaffrey, William Gibson, Ursula K. Le Guin – these prominent authors and many more owe a debt of gratitude to Ace Books. Founded in 1952, this pioneering publisher championed science fiction and helped bring talented young writers out of obscurity and into the spotlight. Many of their striking paperbacks have become favorite finds for collectors.

From dos-a-dos (two novels in one) paperbacks to pulp and science fiction and more, Ace Books is a paperback collector’s dream.

  1. So true — My first experience with Tolkien occurred when Ace published the trilogy. Same for Dune.
I grew up reading and collecting the doubles so it is always is a joy to find one on my used book store forays. It’s becoming an increasingly rare occurrence.
