In Other Works: Lesser-known Titles from Famous Authors
There are many instances where an author’s best work was not their bestselling work. The must-read lists all include the same titles, but delving deeper into an author’s oeuvre can be rewarding. Long after I read The Catcher in the Rye (and liked it well enough, but was not overly moved), I happened upon J.D. Salinger’s Nine Stories, and was riveted. It made me read Franny and Zooey, which has become one of my favorite books. Keeping in mind that what is popular may not always be what we like best, it’s a good move to read lesser-known works of the authors we like, and not rely on the bestseller lists.
From Margaret Mitchell and George Orwell to Frank Herbert and Kurt Vonnegut, make sure you’re not missing the hidden gems of literature.
