A Clockwork Orange …The Musical Opera?

It’s 50 years since Anthony Burgess’ infamous novella A Clockwork Orange hit the shelves, resulting in uproar and outrage at the violent exploits of Alex and his dear droogs.

Now at last, Anthony Burgess’ longtime dream to be known for his musicals (apparently, that sentence is true. What?) may be closer to true – the BBC reports that the International Anthony Burgess Foundation in Manchester recently held a musical performance of A Clockwork Orange, featuring songs composed by Burgess himself. I had no idea.

Apparently, the musical play is remarkably different from both Burgess’ original novella, and Stanley Kubrick’s film adaptation.
