Steampunk 101 – The Literature

boneshaker-cherie-priestIt’s okay, if you don’t really “get” Steampunk. I’m sure you’ve heard the term, maybe you have a vague notion that it involves goggles and hot air balloons and the inner workings of clocks, and perhaps time machines and top hats. It’s a pretty specific genre, born of science fiction and Victorian sensibilities together – an impossible collision where the past meets the future, and traditions and technologies may be, historically speaking, at extreme odds with one another. Some of the worlds created in this vision are fantastical, impossible conundrums.

If you want examples, of course, head to the books. We’ve done the work for you and put together a list of some of the best steampunk books out there. This selection explores all things steampunk and will go perfectly on your shelf (next to your top-hat, telescope and goggles).
