Softcover. Condition: Very Good+. First Edition. Walker Evans and James Agee found the location for the Evans photos that accompanied "Let Us Now Praise Famous Men" in Hale County, Alabama. William Christenberry, an artist, revisited the location 24 years later and produced his own images, paintings and constructions of the area and its people. Contains Evans b&w photos as well as Chritenberry's work in b&w and color. The text is by Thomas W. Southall. Published in conjunction with an exhibition at the Amon Carter Museum, Fort Worth and three other museums. Original brown paper publisher's wrappers with white spine and cover lettering. This is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings, no previous owner names and no bookplates. The covers are in nice condtion with no creases, tears or chips. In 1936, Walker Evans photographed Hale County, Alabama while working on LET US NOW PRAISE FAMOUS MEN with James Agee. William Christenberry was born in Hale County in 1936 and has photographed there throughout his career. The two became friends and traveled together through Hale County in the 1970s.
