Book First Edition
PARIS, Perrin & cie, Coll. Livres.

Below that, in pencil: "A Oakley Hall, who purchased at sale of W Burton Oct 1860". Burton was an NYC actor and author. He also published "Gentleman's Magazine" from 1837-40, with Edgar Allan Poe as editor. Burton's signature is a match with Wikipedia samples. Also his death date of Feb 1860 is consistent with Hall's Oct 1860 purchase. Hall, 1826-1898, was a lawyer, politician & writer. He was NYC DA from 1853-59 & 1861-69, Then mayor from 1869 to 1872. Hardcover. Two b/w photos, one a f/o. (illustrator). 3rd edition. NEAR FINE book, GOOD DJ(in Brodart). Bowker SIGNED. 3rd ed. 9"x6", 323pp. Two b/w photos, one a fold out of Nuremburg judges This is a book of a dozen or so British court cases. Nuremberg trials being the last, The photo of this is a fold out. A major figure in this book is Sir Norman Birkett. The title page's author, Bowker, clerked for Birkett. Birkett was a major prosecutor in the Nurembeg trials. A previous owner, Morris (Moe) Berg, had laid in a photo of Birkett on the back of which Birket is identified. Book flaws: (1) spine lettering faded a bit. (2) Berg's stamp in six places and on the back of the laid in photo. DJ clean and attractive with intact price but quite worn. Is Berg the famous short stop? Likely not as each "M" in the stamp is the opposite of how Berg the short stop wrote it. But, Birkett was a judge at Nuremberg and Berg the shirt stop was at Nuremberg. NEAR FINE book, GOOD DJ. SIGNED. 3rd ed, 9"x6", 323pp.
