Volume 8 has a bit of fraying to top edge of spine, volume 12 a bit of fraying to lower edge of spine. Otherwise, a near fine set. Some pages are uncut (as issued) and should be carefully separated with a playing card prior to reading. Volume One of he Patron's edition has the name of the original owner printed inside the book on a page designed for that purpose. The series editor has also signed the book in a designated location. Each volume covers a specified topic: many deal with natural history topics (animals of all sorts). There are also volumes devoted to geology, the sun, the history of the Smithsonian itself, plants, North American Indians (Native Americans), and great inventions. Book.
