Hard Cover. Condition: Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. First Edition. 453 pp, large 8vo (9 1/2" H). Map. "(E)mploys a comprehensive approach to the behavioral processes of the peoples of this important area of the world. At a time when much of the literature on the Middle East is either historical in nature or limited to specific target studies, Ailon Shiloh has compiled a volume of articles that integrate political, historical, economic, demographic, and health data into the study of culture and behavior. (His) introduction encapsulates a history of the area from the birth of civilization to the Six-Day-War of 1967. The articles that follow are written by a variety of perceptive scholars, many of whom are native to the Middle East or have lived and worked there for a number of years. The book is divided into five sections - The Distribution of Peoples, Cultures and Subcultures, Population Dynamics, Culture Change and Conservatism, and The Schoolteacher as Anthropologist - covering either the cultural history of the area or the effects of pressures toward fundamental culture change." Wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, two tiny dints and light soiling on bottom of text block, minor soiling on fore-edge of text block, previous owner's name and erased pencil name on front free end paper, soft creases across contents page. Dust jacket has been price-clipped, has moderate edgewear/wrinkling, chips and tears - some with creases, area of discoloration on spine, light rubbing and some tiny scuff marks - now protected in removable mylar sleeve.

In very good condition. An exceptional collection of signatures brought together by this important historic event. An attempt to set up a framework that would lead to the resolution of the ongoing Israeliâ "Palestinian conflict, The Oslo Accords, or the Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements, were officially signed at a public ceremony in Washington, D.C., on September 13 1993, in the presence of PLO chairman Yasser Arafat, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and U.S. President Bill Clinton. The Accord provided for the creation of a Palestinian interim self-government, the Palestinian National Authority (PNA). The Palestinian Authority would have responsibility for the administration of the territory under its control. The Accords also called for the withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) from parts of the Gaza Strip and West Bank. In 1994 Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres, and PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat received the Nobel Peace Prize following the signing on the Oslo Accords, "for their efforts to create peace in the Middle East". The Accords, however, never resulted in peace.
