First Edition
Hard Cover. Dust Jacket Condition: Dust Jacket. First Edition. (London: Selwyn & Blount n.d. [1936]). First UK Edition. Publisher's salmon pink cloth with the spine lettered in black. The book is dated by the 32-page Spring Catalogue at the rear. Faint offsetting to both sets of end-papers and light foxing to the first few pages of the book overall a bright and clean near fine copy. In the RARE D/W priced 7/6 net to the spine by Youngman Carter which is two-toned each half showing a different scene: to the left in blue has Scotland Yard; to the right in red has a scene on the Thames Embankment with a policeman. The D/W has a slither of loss at the head and tail of the spine (not affecting any lettering) and has a short 1 cm closed tear and associated crease to the bottom edge of the front panel. Six short stories by leading Detection Club authors each illustrating a perfect murder. Each story is then followed by a superb commentary by Ex-Superintendent Cornish, CID detailing how the seemingly perfect murder could have been solved. A much nicer copy than normally seen of this rare book and a very nice copy indeed. Haycraft Queen Cornerstone. Photographs/scans available upon request.
