Manuscript / Paper Collectible First Edition
Pamphlet. xi, 58p., introduction, very good first edition playscript in trade paperback pictorial wraps. Protagonist is fleeing dark death, in search of dark ladies, ultimately stabbed by irritable African Americans [exeunt]. A riff on Jack Kerouac set in San Francisco and Inverness California. It was "banned from competition in Wales at the All England Drama Festival due to 'the controversial nature of the piece' " -- controversial? possibly because of ethnicity of knife-wielder --but the play went on to the Shropshire Drama Festival where it won "award and recognition." Knight was best-known in San Francisco for his film reviews for The SF Chronicle.

James (or John) Roach was a bookseller and compiler who kept a shop in Drury Lane near the Theatre Royal. His bookshop on Drury Lane stocked everything from children's anthologies to salacious prints, and he is credited with producing one of the first part-publications - a collection of poetry published over two years. He published an infamous pamphlet entitled Harris's List of Covent Garden Ladies (a notorious catalogue of courtesans and their various specialties) which landed him in prison for several months. However, with his new found notoriety, he released a selection of theatre books which sold very well.
