Hardback, bound in shaken brown embossed cloth, the front hinge is weak, there are some cracks between gathers. The free endpaper is missing. The title page has some fingermarks. There is some light yellowing throughout and a little light foxing in p laces. Portrait, 377.

Overall a very rare good solid copy. Usual toning and ware to be expected.

The original full cloth hardcover binding is strong and solid, although the spine ends are worn, as are the board corners and lower board edges. Overall a good solid copy of the first edition with tissue guard and engraved portrait of Hewitson opposite the title page. 374pp.
