Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Foreword by Margaret Mead (illustrator). A good to fair HB of 264 pages with a DJ repaired to a good status. This is an ex library book with all library ink stamps & labels removed. One of the most treacherous climates in the world is that of the Arctic Coast, where temperature drops to below-50F., and the seas are frozen up to seven months out of every year. In the Pelly Bay area of Northern Canada the tundra is treeless, and the only vegetation consists of creeping shrubs, grass-like plants, lichens and mosses. It is this cruel enviroment that the Netsilik Eskimos have managed to live. From only four basic sources of raw materials- snow and ice, skin, stone, and bone- they have managed to evolve a highly sophisticated technology that has paid off in survival.
