First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. Charlotte Becker (illustrator). 1st Edition. Mr. Pearly of Pepper Pot Lane was written by Eleanor Thomas and illustrated by Charlotte Becker. The book was published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1939 and appears to be a First Edition though it's not specifically stated as such. (It DOES have the letter "A" where a number line might today.) It's an ex-library copy in fair condition, has no dust jacket, and has been rebound by the library in nice, clean, sturdy boards. The book has library markings and the library wear from many children's hands having turned the pages . . . some occasional smudges, an occasional tape repair job by the library, and some "unfolded" dog ears. Nevertheless the book should be quite readable for many more years, and Becker's illustrations (both color and black-and-white) are still neat. The book is 6 1/4" by 7 7/8" and has 84 pages . . . charm and nostalgia. "Mr. Pearly was a London coster who owned a mischievous donkey, and their adventures are here set forth in amusing text and sprightly pictures." Thank you!.
