Vintage double weight matte portrait photograph of actress Carmel Myers, circa 1920s. With the stamp of photographer Clarence Sinclair Bull on the verso ("Camera Study by Clarence Sinclair Bull / Kindly Credit"), a mimeo snipe to the verso, and the photographer's name blindstamped the bottom right corner of the image on the recto. Myers began as a theatre actress before signing with Universal, and several years later, with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Both studios cast her primarily as a vamp, including her most famous part as the Egyptian seductress Iras in Fred Niblo's "Ben-Hur" (1925). Unlike many of her contemporaries, Myers had a relatively successful career in sound film, co-starring with John Barrymore and Marian Marsh in both "Svengali" and "The Mad Genius" (1931). Photographer Clarence Sinclair Bull worked as the head of the MGM stills department for forty years, specializing in publicity stills and portrait photography. Bull was best known as Greta Garbo's photographer from 1929 to 1941, but also worked with many of the studio's leading stars of the period, including Clark Gable, Katharine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, and Grace Kelly. 8 x 10 inches. Very Good plus, slightly wavy and lightly toned.

No Binding. Condition: Very Good. Clarence Sinclair Bull & Fred Parrish (Set Photographers) (illustrator). GONE WITH THE WIND. Los Angeles, California: Selznick Studios, [1939]. Original & magnificent 1939 vintage oversized glossy double weight gelatin silver exhibition print (12" by 15") from "GONE WITH THE WIND" featuring VIVIEN LEIGH as Scarlett O'Hara, LESLIE HOWARD as Ashley Wilkes, and OLIVIA DE HAVILLAND as Melanie Hamilton. In Very Good condition with minor blemishes to the borders but not to the image itself. A limited number of these huge prints were displayed in 1939 at the various premieres of the film around the United States; in some cases, not here, the theater owner would write the show times in the bottom margin. This larger format photo shows excellent detail and has an original Selznick Studio snipe on the back to prove its first release authenticity. Vivien Leigh's appeal is never more obvious than in this remarkable close-up. This photo was taken by one of two set photographers assigned to the film. Clarence Sinclair Bull was a famous film portrait artist, this is more likely his work. The other studio photographer Fred Parrish was more likely to have captured the scene stills. GONE WITH THE WIND remains, after nearly 85 years, one of the greatest successes in Hollywood film history, having attained and maintained an exalted place in popular culture. Exhibition prints of this size, still retaining the studio promotional snipe on the back, are exceedingly uncommon.

Vintage double weight portrait photograph of writer P.G. Wodehouse, circa 1930. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio stamp crediting photographer Clarence Sinclair Bull on the verso, and Bull's blindstamp on the bottom right corner of the recto. Wodehouse went to Hollywood in 1929, largely at the behest of his wife, Ethel May Wayman. He signed as a screenwriter with MGM in 1930, making a substantial $2000 a week, but found the work dissatisfying, and his contract was not renewed after it ended in 1931. 8 x 10.25 inches.
