Seller: Michael Patrick McCarty, Bookseller, New Castle, CO, U.S.A.
Hard cover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No dustjacket. With color frontispiece and endpapers illustrated by Fred Everett; photographs throughout. A classic in the field and a basic source on prewar firearms, and a title of "The Borzoi Books For Sportsmen". With chapters on rifles for big game and deer, duck guns, grouse shooting and deer stalking in Scotland, grizzly, moose, sheep and goat in Alberta. Paul Curtis was one of the first ?modern day? gun writers, and enjoyed significant influence within the shooting industry in the first half of the 20th century. He served as the shooting editor of Field and Stream from 1919 to 1934, and was a champion of and self-proclaimed "father of the riflescope". Curtis also wrote Sporting Firearms of Today in Use, American Game Shooting, and Sportsmen All. Renowned wingshooter, hunter, conservationist, and outdoor writer Nash Buckingham (1880?1971) wrote of Curtis, ?No American writer of shotguns, rifles, pistols, and revolvers, and their ammunitions, powders, scientific angles, applications, and ballistic variants, has been better equipped than was Curtis to depict and analyze that field clearly and critically. He never merely glamorized some new-fangled weapon or cartridge in order to boost its advertising appeal.?.
