Father was William Young Ripley, born in Middlebury, Vermont a son of early Vermont settlers. She spent part of her adult life in Ghent, NY, moved to Rutland Vermont. A writer of prose, fiction and poetry, she was recognized as a major writer during her lifetime. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Hardcover. Condition: Collectible; VG. First Edition. This hardcover book is Fine (considering the age), being square and tight. The brown cloth boards are rubbed through at the points and the spine has minor wear to the extremites with small tears to the cloth. The publisher blind stamp on the front board is sharp, and the gilt lettering on the spine is bright and legible. The pages are beautiful and the light blue endpages are clean, with the bookplate of a prior owner on the inner board and an 1890 signature on the free end page matching the bookplate. There is also a blindstamp on the free end page. The gutters are partially cracked but sound and tight. There is not a dustjacket, as issued. Not ex-lib. No remainder mark. The Author was born in South Carolina and later lived in Rutland Vermont (bookplate referenced above identifies the owner as being from Rutland Vermont as well). A beautiful copy from 1869, being a First Edition.
