Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. The Devin-Adair Company, Publishers, NY. Edited by Otto Eisenschiml. Only thing written on this general. "Superb collection of 500 letters; especially useful for the 1862 fall of Harpers Ferry and the 1865 fall of Richmond," CWB. Ripley organized a company of Vermont Volunteers while still in college. He saw action in the Shenandoah Valley Campaign in 1862 and was captured at Harpers Ferry in September 1862. Promoted to Brigadier General in the Army of the James in August 1864, he led the first Union troops into Richmond when the Confederate Capitol fell. Very good copy of the first edition in a good dust jacket protected by mylar. The book has a previous owners plate, although without a name. The dust jacket has edge wear. 340 pages.
