Front board and front free end paper are 2/3 detached. Rear hingeis tight. Text block is very good or better; square, clean and tight throughout. Medical historian Ralph Major described this work as a clasic in the history of American medicine and and said no man had more influence on American medicine in is his time than Flint. Scarce first edition. Size: Thick 8vo.

47 pp. 8vo, publisher's gilt-lettered and blind-embossed flexible cloth. First separate edition, reprinted, for private distribution, from the Transactions of the American Medical Association, 1852. Significant chipping to the cloth at the spine, but underlying structure sound; some light marginal dampstaining. The base of the stethoscope has repairs to cracks, but is otherwise in excellent (operable) condition. Presentation copy, inscribed for a doctor (but not signed) "with the Author's respects, Buffalo, April 16, 53." This book is accompanied by a 19th c. stethoscope and an old note on an Rx pad, "stethoscope used prior to 1855." The monaural ear trumpet is metal riveted to Vulcanite (?).
