Self-cover. 1st Edition. First edition. 5-7/8 x 9-1/8 inches. 16pp. self cover, stapled. Compliments of ???? hand-written on top left corner. Very early and thus quite scarce Autographs catalogue, #16, June 1903, published by Goodspeed's Book Shop in Boston. Content is 11 pages of 394 autographed items, 6 books ads on 4 pages and the back cover promoting the benefits of collecting along with the many subjects he has sold to collectors. Goodspeed's Book Shop occupies an exceptional place among American book dealers of the 20th century. Founded in Boston in 1898 by Charles Eliot Goodspeed (1867-1950) and continuing in business under his son George George Talbot Goodspeed (1902-1997) into the 1990s, the firm issued a variety of catalogues (608), occasional "lists," a regular publication titled the Flying Quill and a monthly publication called This Month at Goodspeed's. During its years of bookselling, Goodspeeds made its reputation by acquiring American literature; the first children's book printed in America was among their purchases. The Goodspeeds were also among the first to recognize the importance of Audubon's natural history prints and to anticipate the growing popularity of genealogy studies.
