Book
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Something Else Press, New York, 1972. Walter Gutman (1903 1986) was a New York stock market analyst, writer, artist and avant-garde film maker. In the late 1950 s into the early 1960 s, he wrote rather unorthodox Wall Street stock market tip sheets called the Gutman Letters. This book contains 19 essays/letters on a wide range of topics. From the dust jacket blurb To supplement the letters, there are photographs documenting Gutman s non-Wall Street activities, and in real life these far outweigh his affair with the ticker-tape. They are the kinds of involvements that may well have cost him a seat on the exchange: the nude models, the friendship with Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and Robert Frank that led to the G-String Enterprises production of Pull My Daisy ; the double-bubble-bath sequence from the George Kuchar film Unstrap Me , in which Gutman stars; and the everpresent circus goddess, female weight-lifters and strongwomen . This is a most unusual, scarce and entertaining book. This book, 142 pages plus a photo of an announcement re The Walter K. Gutman Collection exhibit at Bowdoin College in 1966. The book is a large format work with pages measuring 11 X 8.5 . The book is in near fine condition in a good dust jacket, that is now in a protective mylar sleeve. This large book will require additional postage.
