The growth of a vibrant fourth estate was an important component of the Meiji Restoration, making and breaking multiple governments and wielding significant social influence. Octavo. Tissue-guarded photographic half-tone frontispiece, 14 plates (1 folding). Remnants of old bookseller's label on front pastedown; contemporary ink annotation on p. 65; more recent pencil and blue crayon annotations on pp. 4-5. Spine sunned, occasional faint stains to cloth, contents evenly toned, one gathering proud: jacket unclipped, toning and soiling, losses at spine ends, old adhesive tape repairs on verso: a very good copy in like jacket.
