Unclipped jacket has faint crease fold near top corner at jacket flap . Few flecks of fox to rear jacket panel. Verso of jacket also foxed. Chronicles the threat that logging posed to the Notch Area then switches to the threats posed by the elements and the projected construction of a four lane Interstate Highway on The Great Stone Face itself. This volume was published before the actual collapse of the face on May 3rd, 2003. A smaller but similar stone feature in adjacent Massachusetts collpased on June 19, 2019 in Assonet Village (Freetown) MA. Further info upon request.

Dust jacket has a 1" tear to top edge and a 3/4" tear to bottom edge on front panel. Decorative end papers. A great story of the efforts over the years to keep the Old Man of the Mountain intact.
