Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. This is "Selected Poems of Howard McCord 1955 - 1971. The book has a brief Preface by Theodore Enslin, and was published in Trumansburg, New York by Crossing Press. The illustrations and cover art were by Harley Elliott. **************************************** Said Poet Thomas McGrath about McCord's work : "No living poet knows better than Howard McCord the numinous element in landscape - those moments when the body of desert or mountain begins to vibrate at a frequency matching one in our own deeps and depths. So his poems become interfaces between human and inhuman systems and himself a kind of ecologist of the spirit." And further, Keith Wilson said : "One of those rare poets who successfully combines mysticism, scholarship, and the lyrical gift - a shaman from the Southwest alive to the realities and the occult significances of the word - an evoker of the sacred word. (Both of these statements were taken from the back cover of the book.) *************************************** TITLE : The Selected Poems of Howard McCord 1955 - 1971 / AUTHOR : Howard McCord (1922 - 2022) / PREFACE : Theodore Enslin / ILLUSTRATIONS & COVER ART : Harley Elliott / IMPRINT : Crossing Press / PLACE : Trumansburg, New York / DATE : (1975) / EDITION : First Paperback Edition (Issued simultaneously with the hardcover, subsequent to a Limited Edition / STATUS : OP / DETAILS : Trade paperback, contains several illustrations that act as section dividers (or lead-ins) - these similar to the cover art; 128 pages; pictorial wraps, glued. First Edition
First Edition. Oblong Folio. . Signed on the half-title by Terpning and Brown. 183pp. which includes an index of paintings and awards, illustrated in color. Terpning's subject matter is largely the Native people of the Great Plains. Brown's commentary is far more concerned with Terpning's technique and process as an artist, which has won him several awards. Stuart Johnson of Settlers West Gallery wrote the introduction and Apiniokio Peta (Darrell R. Kipp), a member of the Crow tribe and longtime friend of Howard Terpning penned the foreword. Copies signed by both Terpning and Brown are scarce. Bound in beige cloth lettered in blind, spine plain, in unclipped pictorial dust jacket. Near fine.
