This copy is in fine unmarked condition the unclipped dust wrapper has a little edge wear and some nibbles to the head of the spine so best described as very good. This edition of the remarkable recollections of deputy Surgeon-General John Henry Sylvester (1830-1903) of the old Bombay Army, covers the years of his life from 1848, when he entered King's College, London until the end of his duties as a regimental surgeon, in 1897. Those looking for tales of fire and slaughter, cavalry charge and siege, will find them in this book, but Sylvester was also an artist, and it is with an artist's eye that he noted and thus recorded the countryside through which he passed. His description of a furlough in Kashmire should not be missed by anyone wishing to know of that land and its people just over a century ago. Ref EE5.
