Trade Paperback. Condition: Near Fine. Lindstrom, Jack (illustrator). First Printing. 84 Pages. Gorillas go through life pretty much the way we do in ours--eating, having sex, raising the young, playing out social roles, getting old, and dying. Like most social animals, gorillas maintain a hierarchy. Invariably a mature male grows a particularly beautiful coat of silver fur on his back, identifying him as the leader. This silver back gorilla takes on the task of preserving the clan. He directs their movements, sires the offspring, mediates disputes, and defends the clan against threats. Other members of the clan organize themselves forming a social structure that works well for them. Thousands of years of evolution have proven it to be so. Evolution for the human race, however, has taken a funny twist. In the course of emerging from the jungles we have stumbled on to awareness. This faculty has spawned a body of knowledge leading to science, industry, technology-and ultimately increased comfort and longer lives. But it has also sparked an illusion of separation from the rest of the animal kingdom. We are blind to the many ways in which the dominant attitudes and competitive behavior we have inherited threaten to push us dangerously out of balance with our world. Our saving grace may be to use our awareness instead for tempering the silver back gorilla syndrome. This book is an attempt to increase that awareness. If you are a male reader who resonates with this evolutionary call, join a Silverback Gorilla 12-Step group. But first meet Big G, the silver back gorilla lord of all, leader of the pack and specimen of power and virility.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. This is actually a compilation of essays by many writers about ancient and early Asian and European history with the addition of a great many illustrations. The book has sound hinges and is not cocked. There are a few words on the first free endpage; otherwise pages are clean, unmarked and undamaged. Exterior covers are clean and the gilt lettering on the spine is bright. There is a small bump on the back cover and one shallow dent in the top edge of the back cover. No bumped corners or rubbing to extremities. The dust jacket is clean with light toning (age tanning) to the white portions (inside flaps). It has a single small tear and a light crease at the top edge of the inside front flap and a couple of other light creases near the top edge. Very little wear otherwise. It has been put in a clear archival sleeve to keep it looking great. The book, dust jacket and sleeve will be bubble-wrapped and carefully packed in a sturdy box to ensure safe transit. This is a heavy, oversize book that will probably require extra funds for shipping outside of the United States. The following essays (or chapters) are included: "Gift of the Nile" by Leonard Cottrell; "The First Law Code" by Jean Bottero; "The Eruption of Santorin" by M.S.F. Hood; "The Aryan Invasion of India" by Eric J. The 1974 survey recorded 81 sites (72 archeological, 2 historical, and 7 paleontological) in the watershed, 31 of which (30 archeological and 1 paleontological) are located in 15 of the reservoirs. The archeological sites are open occupational areas. Most are temporary camps, mainly late Archaic and late Neo-Indian, with a few early Neo-lndian. Some are late Neo-Indian permanent villages. The villages are located along the main valley. The flint in the watershed is largely from the Alibates quarries to the west. Little was learned about the Archaic and historic remains, but substantial information about the early and late Neo-lndian occupations was gained. The early Neolndian components contain elements of both Plains Woodland and Southwestern Mogollon traditions. The late Neo Indian components are in the Plains Village tradition, but differ from both the Panhandle Aspect to the west and the Custer-Washita River foci to the east. The historic materials may be Faraon Apache.
