Paperback. Condition: Good. Atherton Baptist Homes, 2004. Soft cover, 158 pp. No other printings listed. In good condition. Glossy pictorial soft covers have a 1" tear to the bottom edge of the back cover. Light bumping to edges and creasing to corner and light overall scuffing and soiling to covers as well. Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked. NOT Ex-library. NO remainder marks. Black and white illustrations throughout. [From back cover] Many organizations are merely the lengthened shadow of a single person. In 1914 this became true for Atherton Baptist Homes when an eavesdropping girl from New England, after the lapse of many years, was able to inspire the leaders of the Southern California Baptist Convention to create one of the first retirement homes on the West Coast. This narrative tells how that facility has flourished through the contributions of many individuals named herein. Also recorded is the combined benevolence of the membership of what is now known as the American Baptist Churches of the Pacific Southwest, as well as other like-minded friends. Although the complete story cannot be recaptured today, this brief history is the only published record of the motivations and actions which have made Atherton what it is today. It details how God?s purpose to care for His own has unfolded through the determination of inspired leaders and the faithfulness of a host of others who have shared God?s vision. It tells how the first twelve years of frustration and near-despair were transformed into a new vision still alive and well in 2004. Over the period of 20 years all the written records and publications concerning Atherton have been painstakingly researched by the author, Arthur Hyde. Many events have been verified from first-hand recollections of residents and leaders who lived through the last part of the 90 years chronicled herein. The pictorial record, here reproduced, is a collection of rare and never-before assembled photos.
