Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Very good illustrated vintage first edition thus of the account of the first women's expedition to the Himalayas. Tents in the Clouds has many black and white photos taken by the authors, Monica Jackson and Elizabeth Stark and other members of the expedition as well as five maps. This was published by the Travel Book Club. The book has an attractive matte pictorial dustjacket which is in excellent condition. The textured brown boards are in very good condition but the spine is a little faded. The book is about 6 inches high and 252 pages long, making it a slim volume. The page block is secure with no loose or missing pages. Internally it is clean and bright. All in all this is a nice copy of an unusual work of exploration writing. It would make a great addition to any vintage nature or arctic exploration collection but it would also look lovely as part of a display. There are many more books like this in the shop.

First Edition
Pp. 255. With 36 photographical illustrations and 5 maps. Publisher's cloth in pictorial dustwrapper (slightly chipped at foot of spine). First edition of the first women's Himalayan expedition. In 1955 three female mountaineers, two of them wrote this book, set out to find a way through the lower gorges to the glacier valleys of the Jugal Himal on the Nepali-Tibetan border. Another aim was to check and correct the only existing map of the area. They made the ascent of an unknown peak of over 22000 feet and named it Gyalgen Peak after their chief Sherpa. Neate J04.
