Lovely maps of the course of St. Andrews on endpapers. First printed 1967, second impression, December 1967, and this edition is the third impression, 1971. Printed by J. & G. Innes, Ltd, at Edenside Printing Works, Cupar, Fife, Scotland. 173 pages all intact, all pages, maps, text and illustrations are in really good, clean, readable order. The age long obsession of an entire city is the theme of this book. It compasses the known history of golf in St. Andrews where the game has been played since time immemorial. As long ago as 1691 the famous little Scottish city was being described as the "Metropolis of Golfing". It has been the headquarters of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, administrators of golf, for over two hundred years. The game that eventually has bound a community in its spell now casts its enchantment over a bewitched world. How and where it all began is a fascinating story.
