Unbound. Condition: Near Fine. Gelatin silver photograph. Measuring approximately 9½" x 7½", mounted onto 16" x 18" card. The image shows a tiny bit of wear and is about fine, the card modestly worn and foxed, very good or better. Signed by Knee below the image and dated 1927. With an additional gift Inscription at the bottom of the card: "for Ernst and Analee from Paul." A note written on the front identifies the recipients as composer Ernst Bacon and his second wife Analee, given to them by author and two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning historian, Paul Horgan. Someone has titled the print on the verso, "El Capitan, New Mexico." Knee was a noted Southwestern photographer, part of that great community (some locals, some that visited often) including Gustave Baumann, Will Shuster, Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, Georgia, O'Keefe, and so on. He is best known for his photographs of northern New Mexico. Perhaps Knee gifted this print to Horgan, who then passed it along? Either way, a nice association.
